COLUMBUS, Ohio – Police investigating the death of 19-year-old Ohio State University student William Meyers have shared a preliminary finding about what might have happened inside the stadium on September 26.
According to investigators, early evidence suggests Meyers may have suffered a sudden medical emergency, such as a cardiac episode or other health-related issue, while alone in the stadium. Authorities emphasized that this is still only a working theory, as toxicology and autopsy reports are pending.
“There continues to be no evidence of foul play,” said university spokesperson Ben Johnson. “Our investigators believe this was likely a tragic medical incident, but we will wait for final confirmation from the coroner before making any official determination.”
Meyers, a third-year accounting student, was known for co-founding a charity with his brother that donates new and used sports equipment to community centers across the region. His death has deeply saddened classmates and faculty.
Police say a full report on the official cause of death will be released once the medical examiner completes all tests.
