Robert Redford, who died on September 16 at the age of 89, leaves behind a wife and two daughters, Shauna and Amy Redford.
The actor also had seven grandchildren. His two sons, with his first wife Lola Van Wagenen, preceded him in death, dying from sudden infant death syndrome and bile duct cancer.
How did Robert die? The cause of death was not released. However, some details of the actor's death are coming out. He died at home in Utah, and his publicist, Cindi Berger, told NBC News that the Hollywood legend died surrounded by his family. According to Berger, Robert passed away on Tuesday, September 16 “in the mountains of Utah — the place he loved, surrounded by those he loved. He will be missed greatly. The family requests privacy.”
Robert's family includes his second wife, Sibylle Szaggars. She is a German-born artist who specializes in environmental themes, according to her website.
“Her artistry spans across mediums and decades, from painted oil sketches and photographs of her Moroccan travels, expressions on canvas from her American Indian Pueblo visits, large Oil paintings where she explores ‘The Shape of Color’ and her recent works of watercolor abstracts shaped by the monsoon rains of Santa Fe, New Mexico,” her website says.
“In order to find a stronger voice through art for the Earth, Szaggars Redford entered the world of performance art as an homage to the universal elements and an artistic medium for environmentalism in action,” it reads.
Robert's daughter Amy is an actor and podcaster, her website says.
Robert had two lengthy marriages. He was married to Van Wagenen, the mother of all of his children, from 1958 through 1985, according to TODAY.
His son, David James Redford's obituary says that he died in 2020 of bile duct cancer after forging a career in social justice and documentary work.
