For the first time since announcing her early retirement from Fox News, Dana Perino has opened up about the deeply personal plan she and her husband Peter McMahon have quietly been preparing — and the revelation left the live audience in tears.

Appearing on a special farewell edition of America’s Newsroom, Perino was asked what she most looked forward to after stepping away from the anchor desk.

She paused, then said softly:

“We’re going to spend our mornings reading to children… who’ve never had a parent read to them.”

The audience fell silent.

Dana went on to explain that she and her husband will volunteer full-time at underserved libraries and orphanages across the U.S. and abroad, bringing books, hosting storytelling sessions, and building a project called “Chapters of Hope.”

“We’re not just reading books,” she said, holding back emotion. “We’re restoring bedtime. We’re building memories for kids who deserve more than silence at night.”

According to close friends, the couple has already committed $250,000 of personal savings to launch mobile libraries in four states and fund translation projects for refugee communities.

Fox News co-host Bill Hemmer, visibly moved, said:

“I’ve sat beside Dana for years. But I’ve never admired her more than I do right now.”

Hashtags like #ChaptersOfHope, #DanaAndPeter, and #ReadWithLove began trending within minutes of the broadcast. Viewers flooded social media with emotional reactions.

“This is the kind of legacy that lasts far beyond headlines,” one commenter wrote.
“Dana Perino just taught us all how to leave a job with grace — and enter a mission with purpose,” said another.

As Dana Perino closed the segment, she left viewers with one simple message:

“The world needs more voices telling stories that matter. We’re just getting started.”
