Just days after the emotional funeral of Diogo Jota, a close friend of the late football star arrived at the Jota family home carrying a plain white envelope — one that would leave the grieving family in tears and prompt an immediate call to police.
According to sources close to the family, the friend, whose identity is being kept confidential for now, told Jota’s parents he had been asked by the footballer to deliver the envelope “only if something happened” to him. The request had been made several weeks before Jota’s fatal car accident.
Reluctant but visibly emotional, the friend fulfilled that promise. What the family found inside the envelope stunned them.
The contents reportedly included a handwritten letter from Jota, dated and signed, alongside a USB drive. The letter, described by one family member as “gut-wrenching,” contained deeply personal reflections — but also cryptic warnings and mentions of unresolved issues that, according to the letter, “would come to light if I’m not here.”
The USB drive, now in police possession, is believed to contain private recordings and documents, though authorities have not disclosed their nature.
“This wasn’t just a goodbye letter,” a source familiar with the contents said. “It was something more — something protective, almost like he knew something wasn’t right.”
Overcome with emotion and confusion, the family contacted local authorities immediately after reading the letter. Forensic investigators have since confirmed the authenticity of the handwriting and are analyzing the digital files on the USB for any clues that could shed light on Jota’s final weeks.
The discovery has only deepened the mystery surrounding the Liverpool star’s sudden death, which has already sparked widespread speculation after revelations of secret bank accounts, hidden recordings, and unsent emails.
Police have not ruled out reopening aspects of the case depending on what the drive reveals.
As supporters around the world continue to grieve, the Jota family is now faced with the unsettling possibility that their son may have left behind more than just memories — he may have left behind the truth.
