A reward of up to $2,500 has been offered for information in the disappearance of the mother of “Today” show host Savannah Guthrie.
Authorities in Arizona believe Nancy Guthrie, 84, was kidnapped, abducted or otherwise taken against her will.
“This one stood out, just because what I was being told about the home she disappeared from, and I just felt like we’re going to do our search and rescue mission,” Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos told “Elizabeth Vargas Reports” on Monday. “We’re going to find her, but I also felt like we need to get our homicide or criminal investigation team involved early on, because I just didn’t like what I was hearing.”
Nanos said Monday that Guthrie is in urgent need of her daily medication, noting that 24 hours without it could be fatal.
“This is not dementia-related. She’s as sharp as a tack,” Nanos said at a news conference earlier in the day. “The family wants everyone to know that this isn’t someone who just wandered off.”

Guthrie was last seen near her home in the Catalina Foothills area of Arizona on Saturday night around 9:45 p.m. local time, according to the sheriff’s office. The sheriff’s department is investigating the possibility she was taken overnight, spokesperson Angelica Carrillo said.
Nanos said there were signs at the home suggesting Guthrie did not leave on her own.
“She didn’t just wander off at 84, though she does still suffer some physical ailments that restrict her ability to move and get around,” Nanos said. “The family tells us, you know, if she could walk 50 yards on her own, that would be something.”
Search and rescue efforts underway in Arizona
Search teams used drones and search dogs and were supported by volunteers and Border Patrol. The homicide team was also involved, Nanos said, and he acknowledged their involvement was not standard in such cases. The FBI has also offered to help, Carrillo said.
“We know she did not leave that home on her own and that it was against her will,” Nanos said. “We don’t know that she was harmed. We believe that there’s evidence at the scene that suggests we’re gathering some DNA samples to get those to our crime lab to get some rapid results and see what that leads to.”

Guthrie stands 5 feet, 5 inches tall and weighs 150 pounds. She has brown hair and blue eyes. It’s unknown what she was wearing when she went missing.
Savannah Guthrie issued a statement Monday via social media: “Thank you for lifting your prayers with ours for our beloved mom, our dearest Nancy, a woman of deep conviction, a good and faithful servant. Raise your prayers with us and believe with us that she will be lifted by them in this very moment. We need you. He will keep in perfect peace those whose hearts are steadfast, trusting in the Lord. A verse of Isaiah for all time for all of us. Bring her home.”
