Princess Catherine appeared to send a subtle message of unity on Christmas Day withan outfit choice that echoed the look worn by Princess Eugenie. Stepping out for the traditional royal Sandringham walkabout, the Princess of Wales, 43, opted for a brown check coat.
The classic country pattern closely mirrored the earthy tones worn by Eugenie during the festive outing. While tartan and check prints have long been a royal staple, the coordinated colour palette did not go unnoticed, particularly given the shifting dynamics surrounding Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor.

Andrew was formally stripped of his military titles and royal patronages by King Charles back in October. He vehemently denies allegations of sexual abuse and wrongdoing linked to his association with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
The decision followed intense public scrutiny surrounding the Epstein scandal, which ultimately brought his public role within the monarchy to an end. Since then, Andrew has remained absent from all official royal events and is believed to not be invited to the Sandringham festivies.
Despite this his daughters have continued to appear at select family occasions, making their Christmas Day appearance especially noteworthy.

Princess Eugenie and her husband Jack Brooksbank made a surprise appearance at Sandringham, joining senior royals for the festive church walk.
Notably absent, however, were Andrew and Sarah Ferguson. Neither Andrew or Sarah attended the Christmas Day service, continuing their long-standing exclusion from the public-facing tradition.

Their absence only sharpened focus on the presence of their daughters, whose participation is often viewed as carefully calibrated.
Fashion has long been one of Catherine’s most effective tools of soft diplomacy, frequently used to convey reassurance and continuity without words.
Her choice of tartan felt deliberate, grounded in tradition yet open to interpretation. By selecting a look that subtly aligned with Eugenie’s, the Princess of Wales appeared to signal solidarity rather than distance.
