His 19-year-old daughter narrowly escaped the attack, surviving multiple gunshots fired in her direction.
Deputies from the Lakewood Station arrived at the family’s home on the 5800 block of Lorelei Avenue around 8 a.m. on Jan. 15 after receiving a call about an assault with a deadly weapon. The caller reported her father had shot at her and was now lying unconscious on the floor near her.
When deputies arrived, they found the 19-year-old outside the home, physically unharmed.
Inside the home, deputies encountered a grim scene. In the den, they found 52-year-old Hector Lionel Alfaro of Lakewood lying on the floor with a gunshot wound to his upper torso.
Continuing through the house, deputies located Alfaro’s 48-year-old wife in a bedroom, suffering from gunshot wounds to her torso. In a second bedroom, they found the couple’s 17-year-old daughter with a gunshot wound to her upper torso.
All three victims were pronounced dead at the scene.
Homicide investigators pieced together the violent chain of events through their investigation. The 19-year-old daughter told detectives she had been asleep when she heard gunshots inside the home. Alfaro then appeared near her armed with a handgun and fired several rounds at her. Despite firing multiple shots, none struck her.
Alfaro then turned the gun on himself while standing near his eldest daughter.
Investigators recovered two firearms at the scene.
The sheriff’s department has not released information about a possible motive for the killings. Homicide Bureau Lieutenant Daniel Vizcarra’s unit is leading the investigation, which remains ongoing.
The 19-year-old survivor now faces the unimaginable trauma of losing her mother, sister, and father in a single morning—and narrowly avoiding death herself.
Authorities are asking anyone with information about the case to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500.
