Bozeman, Montana — Authorities have now confirmed that a lightning strike did occur at the remote woodland site where two 25-year-old hunters were found dead last week. But while the strike may explain part of the tragedy, detectives say what they uncovered in the victims’ pockets has added a haunting new layer to the mystery.
The Pocket Discovery
According to police sources, both men were carrying identical folded notes, each sealed in a small plastic sleeve to protect them from the rain. Written on the paper was the same chilling phrase:
“We knew this would happen.”
The handwriting on both notes is still under analysis, but investigators confirmed it does not appear to match either of the hunters.
Families Left Speechless
The families, already grappling with their grief, were stunned when detectives revealed the findings.
“It doesn’t make sense,” one relative said. “Who gave them those notes? Why were they carrying them? They never said a word about this to anyone.”
Not Just an Accident?
The discovery has reignited speculation that the hunters may have been targeted before the storm hit. Detectives are exploring whether the notes were planted, handed over by someone they met in the woods, or carried by the men for reasons only they understood.
Next Steps in the Case
Investigators are now analyzing the ink and paper for traces of fingerprints, DNA, or chemical residues. Detectives also confirmed that additional electronic devices found in the hunters’ backpacks are being sent to a federal lab for data recovery.
