JUST DONE: Police dogs began barking uncontrollably at an old, abandoned cabin located 500 meters from the scene of Gus’s disappearance, prompting officers to force the door open — and what they found inside has intensified the investigation.

According to authorities on site, the cabin was completely dark and coated in dust, suggesting no one had lived there for years. But as soon as officers stepped inside, they noticed fresh footprints on the floorboards and a faint smell of something recently disturbed.

In the far corner of the cabin, police discovered a small blanket crumpled on the ground, along with what appeared to be a half-empty bottle of water and a child-sized shoeprint near the doorway. Even more alarming, officers found a teddy bear missing one button eye lying beside the blanket — an item strikingly similar to the toy Gus was often seen carrying.

One investigator reported that the dogs became even more agitated near a wooden trapdoor partially hidden under a rug. When officers lifted it, they found a narrow space beneath the floorboards, large enough for a child to hide but empty at the moment they opened it.

Forensic teams have now sealed off the entire cabin as they search for fingerprints, DNA, and any trace indicating how recently someone — possibly Gus — was there, and whether someone else may have been with him.

Police say the discovery is one of the strongest leads so far, but emphasize that the cabin might reveal even more once the full forensic sweep is complete.
