A heartbroken community is mourning the loss of Milla Killeen, the young student who tragically died in Wednesday morning’s school bus crash in Geelong.
The accident happened around 8:20 a.m. when a Christian College Geelong bus, carrying 28 primary and high school students, rolled onto its side while turning onto the Hamilton Highway from Friend in Hand Road at Stonehaven. The crash left more than a dozen students injured and trapped inside before emergency crews arrived to free them.
On Thursday morning, Executive Principal Mathilda Joubert released a heartfelt statement, remembering Milla as a bright and caring presence at the school.
“Milla will be remembered for her beautiful personal qualities, her vibrancy and infectious personality. Her kindness, warmth and joy impacted all who shared her company. Her loss is deeply felt by all staff, students and our Christian College families,” Ms Joubert said.
The bus was on its routine school pickup route at the time of the crash. Police confirmed the 76-year-old driver from Hamlyn Heights, who was briefly hospitalized, has since been released and is assisting with inquiries. The exact cause of the crash remains under investigation.
As the community comes to terms with this devastating tragedy, friends and families are remembering Milla for the joy she brought into their lives, and prayers continue for the many students still recovering from their injuries.
