The United States is mourning after a devastating accident on Interstate 85 in Georgia claimed the lives of eight members of the same family, including five children and a pregnant woman.
According to police reports, the family’s van was struck from behind by a semi-truck, causing the vehicle to burst into flames within seconds. By the time rescue teams arrived, the fire had engulfed the van completely — no one could be saved.
The victims were identified as a Salvadoran immigrant family who had lived peacefully in the U.S. for years. They were reportedly on their way to visit relatives when tragedy struck.
The truck driver — Kane Aaron Hammock, 33, from Gainesville, Georgia — has been arrested and charged with vehicular homicide and reckless driving. Authorities say the investigation is still ongoing.
In the wake of the tragedy, the local community gathered for a candlelight vigil to honor the victims and launched a fundraising campaign to help return their remains to El Salvador.
Photos of the family now rest surrounded by flowers and candles, accompanied by a simple, heart-wrenching message:
“We lost a whole family — but their love will never fade.”
A tragedy that leaves an entire community in silence. 🕯️
