ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. – Heartbreak has struck Elizabeth City after 22-year-old EMT Skye Oraczewski and her co-worker were killed in a fiery crash early Sunday morning.
According to state police, the crash happened around 2:30 a.m. on I-464 when a sedan traveling the wrong way slammed head-on into the ambulance carrying Oraczewski and her colleague. The violent collision caused both vehicles to catch fire.
Emergency crews rushed to the scene, pulling the victims from the burning wreckage. Oraczewski and her co-worker were transported to the hospital but sadly did not survive. The driver of the wrong-way sedan was pronounced dead at the scene.
Family friends describe the sudden loss as devastating, saying Skye was deeply committed to helping others and had a bright future ahead.
State police are continuing their investigation into what led to the wrong-way crash. Local community groups are already organizing efforts to support Oraczewski’s loved ones, with more details expected to be shared in the coming days.
