TEXAS — Rescue teams working tirelessly in the aftermath of this week’s catastrophic flooding in central Texas have shared a significant update in the search for the three young girls who remain missing.
According to officials, recent data from aerial drones, heat sensors, and terrain analysis has allowed teams to pinpoint a specific area on the map where the girls may be located. The zone — roughly 2.4 miles southeast of Camp Mystic, near a bend in the river — is heavily forested and cluttered with fallen trees, many of which collapsed during the height of the storm.
“This section had been previously inaccessible due to debris and unstable ground,” said Chief Rescue Coordinator Andrea Kim.
“But we now believe there is a strong possibility the girls may have made their way into that area, either by force of the current or in search of shelter.”
A Race Against Time
Rescue workers are focusing on a pocket of elevated ground surrounded by fallen logs, where a partial footprint and scrap of fabric were found yesterday. Dogs trained to detect human scent also showed interest near the area, prompting renewed urgency.
“There are signs someone may have tried to stay warm or hidden,” said one search volunteer.
“We’re hoping that means the girls found a way to wait out the worst of the storm.”
With temperatures expected to rise and floodwaters receding slowly, time is becoming a critical factor in the operation. Medical staff and trauma teams are now stationed closer to the perimeter in case the girls are located and need immediate care.
Who Are the Missing Girls?
The names of the girls have not been released at the family’s request, but all three are believed to be between 7 and 10 years old, and were last seen near their shared cabin as emergency evacuation began during the early hours of the storm.
“Their families are holding onto hope,” said one spokesperson.
“They’ve asked the public for prayers and privacy while crews work.”
What Happens Next
Crews are now clearing paths to allow specialized units to enter the wooded zone by foot and by drone. Authorities are also asking locals to stay away from the mapped area, not only for safety but to preserve the integrity of potential evidence or tracks.
“We believe they may still be alive,” said Kim.
“And until we know otherwise, we’re treating this as a live rescue mission.”
