JUST DONE: Police dogs discovered a blue shirt resembling the one worn by four-year-old August “Gus” Lamont just 300 metres from where he went missing near his grandparents’ remote property south of Yunta, South Australia.

When officers arrived to investigate, they also found a child’s doll lying nearby, raising hopes of narrowing the search zone. Authorities stressed, however, that the operation remains in the “recovery phase”, as the chances of survival after six days without food, water, or shelter are extremely slim.

The search effort has already covered vast stretches of outback terrain, with hundreds of police, volunteers, and specialist teams involved. Gus, who has long blond curly hair, was last seen wearing a grey wide-brimmed hat, light grey pants, boots, and a cobalt blue shirt featuring a yellow Minion character.
