Police have just released the latest update in the search for four-year-old August “Gus” Lamont, who vanished six days ago from his grandparents’ remote property near Yunta in South Australia.
Authorities confirmed the mission has now entered the “recovery phase”, as hopes of finding the boy alive fade after nearly a week without food, water, or shelter. The only trace discovered so far is a single footprint found around 500 metres from the family’s homestead.
Hundreds of searchers have combed the red dust and scrub, but no further evidence has been located. Gus was last seen wearing a grey broad-brimmed hat, a cobalt blue shirt with a yellow Minion character, light grey pants, and boots. He is described as having long blond curly hair.
In a statement, Gus’s family said they are devastated by his disappearance but remain grateful to police, emergency services, neighbours, and community members for their tireless efforts. They asked for privacy as they continue to hope for answers.
