BREAKING: Police have confirmed the discovery of four-year-old August “Gus” Lamont, who was found tragically deceased 1,500 feet below the surface of a massive 500-meter-deep refuse shaft. The area, partially filled with trash and debris, was searched after new leads pointed investigators to the site.

Specialist recovery teams were deployed to the difficult terrain, where they located Gus’s body after hours of painstaking work. Authorities described the scene as extremely hazardous, requiring both technical expertise and heavy equipment to safely access the location.

Superintendent Mark Syrus said the discovery has brought “the most heartbreaking end imaginable” to the six-day search that gripped the nation. He praised the tireless efforts of search crews and volunteers but admitted the outcome was devastating for everyone involved.

The Lamont family has been informed and are being supported by police and grief counsellors. They have asked for privacy as they process the tragic loss of their beloved Gus.

Police confirmed investigations will continue into how Gus ended up in the shaft, but at this stage, his death is being treated as a tragic accident.
