In a powerful blend of patriotism and compassion, Fox News anchor Dana Perino has announced the launch of a $100,000 initiative to help U.S. military veterans adopt dogs from rescue shelters — and start healing, one paw at a time.

The program, called “Paws of Honor”, will cover adoption fees, training costs, food, and initial medical care for up to 200 veterans across the country. But there’s one heartfelt condition attached to every adoption:

Each veteran must agree to spend one hour per week volunteering with another veteran in need.

“It’s about more than rescuing dogs,” Perino said in a statement. “It’s about rescuing each other.”

The initiative was inspired by Perino’s late dog Jasper, and her years of work with military nonprofits. She said the idea came to her after meeting a veteran who said, “The only thing that listened to me after the war had four legs.”

Social media erupted in applause after the announcement, with hashtags like #PawsOfHonor, #DanaDelivers, and #RescueTheRescuers quickly trending.

Veterans’ groups are praising the program as “exactly the kind of simple, human-first action we need.”

One retired Marine wrote:

“I lost friends in war, and I lost parts of myself. My rescue dog brought something back. Thank you, Dana.”

Applications for the first round of adoptions open next month, with shelters in 12 states already signed on.

As for Perino, she says her only goal is to create a ripple effect of loyalty, companionship, and hope:

“When you connect a veteran with a dog, you don’t just save a life. You give one back.”
