In a heartbreaking conclusion to one of Texas’s most agonizing search efforts, officials have confirmed that the final missing girl from the Mystic Summer Camp tragedy has been found — and the condition of her body has sent shockwaves through the family and rescue teams alike.

At approximately 4:13 p.m. today, while clearing a field of uprooted tree stumps about 6 kilometers southeast of the Mystic Summer Camp, members of the Travis County Search & Rescue unit made a chilling discovery.

What began as a routine excavation effort turned into a full-scale emergency response when a cadaver dog gave a strong alert near the base of a partially submerged oak stump. Within minutes, a digging crew unearthed the remains of the last missing camper, who had been presumed swept away during the floods nearly two weeks ago.

However, the moment the recovery team made visual contact, the mood on-site changed dramatically.

“Several responders stepped away. One collapsed,” said a senior responder who asked not to be named. “We’ve seen a lot over the years — but nothing like this.”

Authorities have not officially released the girl’s name pending family confirmation, but sources say her identity was verified by the necklace she was last seen wearing, and a note partially preserved in a waterproof pouch found near her body.

The state of the remains, described as “highly unusual and inconsistent with flood trauma”, is now the focus of a joint forensic investigation involving both local law enforcement and federal experts.

“It wasn’t just water damage,” said one forensic analyst. “There are signs that suggest… prolonged exposure to something else. Something we haven’t encountered in this case before.”

The girl’s parents, who had held out hope even as days passed without answers, were present at the command center when they received the news. Witnesses said the mother screamed upon hearing the condition of her daughter’s body, and both parents required immediate medical support.

Camp Mystic, once a cherished summer escape for dozens of families, is now at the center of a growing mystery that stretches far beyond what was originally believed to be a natural disaster.

Investigators are now re-examining the layout of the campgrounds and surrounding terrain for signs that the girl may have been moved post-mortem, or even held somewhere before being buried beneath the stump.

“This changes the timeline. It changes the narrative,” said a federal agent involved in the case. “And it raises new questions about who might have known what — and when.”

Autopsy results are expected within the next 48 hours.

The story, already filled with anguish, has now taken a deeply unsettling turn — and may point toward a far more disturbing chain of events than previously imagined.

We will continue to provide updates as new details emerge.
