In a development that has left even veteran investigators speechless, police confirm that a baby girl — no more than 18 months old — was found alive and alone, partially submerged in a shallow stream just 100 meters from the edge of Camp Mystic, the epicenter of the Texas flood tragedy and ongoing search for 27 missing girls.
The infant was discovered wrapped in three soaked towels, placed carefully on a slightly elevated patch of mud beneath a fallen log, as if intentionally hidden — yet protected.
What’s even more baffling: no infants were reported missing from the camp or surrounding shelters.
“We don’t know who she is, how she got there, or who placed her so deliberately,” said Sheriff Colton Briggs. “But she was alive, alert, and staring straight at the officer who found her. That moment stopped time for all of us.”
A trail of trampled grass and faint shoe prints led to the site, though flooding has erased much of the evidence. Forensic teams are testing the towels and stream bed for any trace DNA.
As of now, no parents have come forward to claim the child.
Speculation is growing over whether the baby may be connected to the missing girls — or possibly left behind by someone trying to escape through the area after the floodwaters rose.
Photos released by the police show the child being carried out of the woods, bundled in a thermal blanket, her face calm but wide-eyed.
The image has gone viral within hours — prompting an outpouring of emotion across the country, with many calling her “The Miracle Stream Baby.”
Child services and medical staff are caring for her now, and authorities are urging the public to come forward with any information, no matter how small.
“Someone left her there — not to die, but to be found,” said one search team member. “And that tells us this story is far from over.”
