TEXAS — Authorities investigating the disappearance of 27 girls at Camp Mystic have confirmed that they have reviewed security camera footage from nearby residents, and discovered a chilling audio clip recorded during the night of the Texas storm — the same night the girls went missing.
The footage came from several outdoor security systems installed in homes within a 2-mile radius of the camp. According to investigators, one of the cameras captured the faint but unmistakable sound of multiple girls screaming during the early hours of the storm.
“It’s only about five seconds long, but it’s clear,” said Detective Lila Moreno.
“The voices are panicked. It’s not thunder. It’s not the wind. It’s screams.”
Audio Timeline and Context
The footage was recorded around 1:17 AM, approximately 30 minutes before Camp Mystic’s communication systems reportedly lost power due to weather conditions. Police say this matches the timeframe in which camp staff lost contact with the girls’ cabins.
Investigators have not released the audio publicly, but describe it as “disturbing and urgent.” For now, they are using it to help establish a clearer timeline of what happened that night.
“It supports the theory that something serious occurred before the floodwaters even reached the camp area,” Moreno added.
Ongoing Investigation
The police are continuing to collect footage and audio from additional homes and traffic cameras in the area, hoping to track any movement, activity, or unusual sounds from that night.
Camp Mystic remains closed off as search teams expand the perimeter. The families of the missing girls have been briefed on the new development.
