Liverpool, July 9, 2025 — In a story that has touched the hearts of Liverpool fans around the world, 11-year-old Isaac Kearny — widely known in the local community as one of Diogo Jota’s most loyal young supporters — broke down in uncontrollable tears when he received the news of his idol’s tragic passing.

According to his mother, Isaac had spent nearly a full day preparing a bouquet of red and white flowers, carefully arranging them to match the colors of Liverpool FC, and writing a personal letter to bring to Jota’s funeral. He had hoped to attend the ceremony to say goodbye in person.

But as the funeral was held privately in Porto, Portugal, with attendance limited to close family and teammates, Isaac wasn’t able to travel. The moment he learned he wouldn’t be allowed to go, he reportedly sat on his bedroom floor, holding the flowers and whispering, “He was supposed to stay until I grew up.”

Still determined to say farewell, Isaac chose another way.

The following morning, accompanied by his father, Isaac went to the local cemetery in Anfield where many fans had set up a spontaneous memorial site filled with scarves, candles, shirts, and letters for Jota. There, Isaac gently placed his handmade bouquet and a small wrapped gift: a signed drawing of Jota scoring a goal, with the words:

“You made me believe in football again. I’ll wear your number until I can’t run anymore.”

On the back of the drawing was Isaac’s own Liverpool match ticket from the last game he saw Jota play — folded and taped beside the words: “This is for you, Diogo. I kept it safe.”

Photos of the moment — showing Isaac kneeling by the memorial with tears streaming down his face — have since gone viral, prompting an outpouring of emotion from fans, players, and former teammates.

Liverpool FC's official account responded in a private message to Isaac, thanking him for his love and promising that his tribute would be shared with the Jota family.

One fan commented:

“That kid represents every single one of us. The pain is real. And the love — even more.”

Though young in age, Isaac’s final gift is now etched in the memory of a grieving football community — a reminder that heroes live on, not just in stadiums, but in the hearts of those who believed in them.
