Tragedy has struck in California after the body of 2-year-old Xavier Padilla Aguilera was discovered in the San Bernardino County Flood Control channel, just south of the Mojave River, police confirmed.
The heartbreaking incident occurred when Xavier and his father were caught in sudden floodwaters and became separated from their vehicle. Despite rescue efforts, the powerful current carried the child away.
Authorities say the father was later located and pulled to safety before being transported to a nearby hospital, where he was treated and released.
Local residents have left flowers near the flood channel as a sign of mourning, while police continue to urge the public to remain cautious around rising waters in the area.
