Since it's bank holiday Monday, usual hosts Ben and Cat were replaced by Alison and one familiar face.
Dermot O'Leary was replaced on This Morning as Alison Hammond was joined by a familiar face for the bank holiday episode – but she made a huge blunder when she opened the show. Ben Shephard and Cat Deeley usually present the show through the week and Alison and Dermot cover a Friday but since it is a bank holiday, Alison was drafted in. Instead of her usual presenting partner Dermot, she was joined by comedian Paddy McGuinness.
Opening the show, Alison addressed viewers, saying: “Hello and welcome to your Fridays- Oh no, it's not! It's not Friday. I've messed it up again. Start the music again, do it again!”
“I'm so sorry I got all confused! I thought you were Dermot O'Leary for a minute!” Paddy joked: “Don't ever do that, don't ever do that.”
Introducing her guest co-host Alison beamed to the camera: “Look who's here! It's only Paddy McGuinness, hello darling! How are you?”
He joked: “Hello, I'm alright! Friday, life is good, innit?” Alison replied: “Sorry, sorry, I've wished the whole week away haven't I? It's bank holiday Monday, so every time I come in obviously I'm the Friday guy so it feels like a Friday, but it's so lovely to have you!”
However as they begin to chat, Alison said there was something very familiar about Paddy.
An image of Paddy from his last stint on the show appeared on-screen next to him now as Alison asked: “Are you wearing the same outfit?! Are you wearing the same clothes?”
Paddy replied: “That's actually hilarious, the reason being about two years ago when I hosted this, they didn't let me home. Dermot keeps me in his dressing room! Just throws me a few scraps of food now and again, then shuts the door.”
Alison laughed at his remark before telling viewers what was coming up on the show and thanking Paddy for joining her.
He replied: “Thank you for asking me. I can't believe I'm here. I'm a big fan of the show and whenever they ask me back, I'm in disbelief.”
She went on: “We are honoured to have your presence, we are absolutely honoured Paddy.”
The bank holiday has meant Good Morning Britain, Lorraine and This Morning have all had stand in hosts taking the hot seat.
On Good Morning Britain, viewers saw Ranvir Singh and Robert Rinder front the programme, as opposed to Susanna Reid and Richard Madeley.
Similarly, Andi Peters was stepping in for Lorraine while the Scottish star was absent from her show.
Good Morning Britain, Lorraine and This Morning are all available to watch on ITVX.
