THE CALL NEVER CONNECTED… Minutes before a mother of five was brutally attacked and killed by two sisters in Texas, she tried to contact the only person who could have stopped it

THE CALL NEVER CONNECTED: MINUTES BEFORE TEXAS MOTHER OF FIVE WAS FATALLY STABBED, SHE TRIED TO REACH THE FRIEND WHO NOW WISHES SHE HAD ANSWERED

The phone rang before the bloodshed.

Just minutes before Caroline “Caro” Peña was brutally attacked in Del Rio, Texas, the 32-year-old mother of five reportedly tried to call one of the people closest to her.

Her best friend, Christina Salinas.

But the call never connected.

Now, that missed call has become one of the most heartbreaking details in the case.

Caroline was fatally stabbed in broad daylight after a violent confrontation on East 10th Street in Del Rio. Police say she arrived at Val Verde Regional Medical Center with multiple stab wounds before being transferred to San Antonio for emergency trauma care.

She later died from her injuries.

Three women have been charged with murder: Amaya “Cookie” Diaz, 19; her sister Kitty Mia Diaz, 21; and Kyandra Renee Faz, 21.

But for Caroline’s loved ones, the most painful part of the story is not only the attack.

It is the minutes before it.

Salinas said Caroline tried calling her shortly before the stabbing. She did not answer. Later, she recognized her friend in a disturbing image circulating online, showing Caroline wounded after the attack.

“I feel like if I would have answered that call, honestly I would have been there with her,” Salinas told local media, according to Fox News. “It wouldn’t have gotten like that.”

Those words now haunt the case.

Because in every tragedy, there is often one small moment people replay forever.

One missed call.

One unanswered message.

One second where life might have turned in another direction.

Police have not publicly released a final motive. They have said the investigation remains active and that more charges could still be possible. Reports say detectives reviewed surveillance footage, processed evidence, and interviewed witnesses before identifying the three suspects.

Authorities also said the attack was not random.

That detail has only deepened the questions.

What was Caroline trying to say when she called Salinas?

Was she scared?

Was she angry?

Was she asking for help?

Or did she simply want someone she trusted nearby before a confrontation turned fatal?

No one can answer that now.

Caroline survived long enough to be rushed for medical help. Salinas said she made it to the hospital and was able to say goodbye before Caroline was flown to San Antonio.

But the call before the attack is the moment she cannot stop thinking about.

A mother of five reached for her phone.

She tried to contact her best friend.

And minutes later, Texas was left with a murder case, five children without their mother, and one unanswered call that will never stop ringing in the minds of everyone who loved her.
