Husband Mourns Mom of 4 Who Died After Crashing Her SUV into Family’s Swimming Pool

A New York family is grieving the loss of a mom of four who died after crashing her car into her family’s swimming pool.

According to police in Nassau County, Long Island, 40-year-old Allison Rahmani died on Friday, Aug. 21, after losing control of her SUV outside of a Hewlett home.

Police told PEOPLE in a statement that Rahmani was in her GMC in the driveway of a residence on Elinor Road when she lost control of her car, “striking a tree, a parked and unoccupied 2006 Honda and subsequently becoming immersed in an inground pool.”

JNS reported that Rahmani was initially able to call for help in the immediate aftermath of the crash, citing a source close to her family.

Rahmani was removed from the car before police arrived at the scene, and officers performed first aid. She was then taken to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Her cause of death has not been made public.

The New York Post reported that Rahmani was a teacher and math coordinator at a modern Orthodox Jewish school in nearby Lawrence, while her husband, Matthew Rahmani, is the president of a nearby synagogue.

During her funeral service on Sunday, Aug. 23, Matthew remembered his wife as a loving mom and supportive partner who “nurtured” their children “like delicate plants.”

According to the Post, he recounted how they had “lived paycheck to paycheck” in their first apartment together and supported him through everything.

“Every major decision point in our lives, you took me by the hand, you pulled me, you said it would be okay, that you believed in me, in us,’’ he said during Sunday’s funeral service, per the outlet.

Allison’s sister also spoke at Sunday’s service, where she described Allison as “the life of the party” and an educator who taught “because she loved to.”

“Where somebody else saw a difficult child, Ali saw potential,” she shared.

Matthew also quoted from a prayer that is often sung by the groom to the bride at Jewish weddings at the funeral.

“I’m sorry I didn’t say that at her wedding. I can’t imagine more fitting words for the woman you were,” he said of the “Eshet Chayil” prayer.

Police shared that the crash is still under investigation.
